A browser is not enough. Browser based applications, that must rely on HTML, can not provide you the heavy duty, data intensive, highly responsive, highly secure application that you are used to. Combined with our 20 years of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting Maintenance Software, Jemms uses Java™ and Swing™ technologies to go beyond the browser.

Jemms includes all of the features of MAPCON including PocketMaint PDA capabilities to create the most feature rich maintenance management software available. Jemms can be installed as either a departmental (single site) or Enterprise wide maintenance software.

One significant difference between MAPCON Jemms and the previous versions of MAPCON is that Jemms will vigorously pursue a strategy of architecture neutrality from the start. In other words, Jemms will (within practical limits) operate in various environments ( Microsoft Windows, Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Linux ), connect to various databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Interbase), and communicate with various other software packages (accounting packages, spreadsheets, word processors). MAPCON Jemms will not be tied to any one environment.

Configurable Look and Feel Styles

Jemms is a “Swing” application. Swing is the standard GUI toolkit provided with Java™ . Swing allows an application to switch between numerous “look and feel” styles. Each gives a slightly different look to the various visual components (scroll bars, dialog boxes) of the facility management software.

Accessing MAPCON Jemms from the Web

When MAPCON Jemms was first started, it was assumed a web browser would be required. However, new technology from Sun Microsystems removes the browser requirements and greatly simplifies system installation, distribution and maintenance. Whether using a corporate intranet or internet dialup, Java™ Web Start will make it easy to deploy MAPCON Jemms to end-users of the maintenance management software.

Jemms Philosophy

Jemms is the newest version of MAPCON™, and has been written in Java™ using Swing for the graphical user interface.

Swing has much the same purpose as HTML (hypertext markup language), but is much more powerful for your facility management operations. HTML products are intended solely for the world of browsers. Swing will work in browsers such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, but Swing will also work as a non-browser application. Adaptable to many computer environments, and like a chameleon, Swing can have the “look and feel” of the computer environment it is running in. For example: a Swing application running on Windows looks like a Windows application, and running on a Macintosh will look like a Macintosh application.

In creating Jemms we wanted a product that reflected the same philosophy that marked previous versions of MAPCON – an asset management software product that mirrored the ways that Maintenance workers actually worked, one that was user friendly, and one that could be altered by our clients to reflect their working environment.
